When it comes to our health and wellbeing, we know when things are out of sync.
Often, it’s palpable. It nags at the back of our minds. We feel stuck, like something needs to change – but knowing where to start can be the tricky bit.
That’s something I see often in my work as a coach: people know they want to feel better, but they’re not sure how. And that uncertainty can be overwhelming.
It’s often made even harder because health and wellbeing mean different things to different people. That’s why any personal health journey has to start with what matters to you.
…Enter the Health Wheel!
When I feel stuck or need a reset, the health wheel is a simple and powerful tool I use myself, and in my health and wellbeing coaching work. It helps reconnect with what really matters, right now.
The health wheel offers a bird’s-eye view of our health and wellbeing, helping us spot what’s working well and where a small shift could make a big difference.
Here’s how to use it:
1. Tune in – grab a piece of paper, draw some boxes and write down up to ten areas that are meaningful to you when you think about your health and wellbeing
These areas can include anything important to you – like food, movement, sleep, stress, relationships, work-life balance, mindset, alcohol, rest, time alone, socialising, or things like family commitments, your environment, finances, or job searching.
2. Rate it – for each area, rate your current level of satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 10
1 = not satisfied, 10 = very satisfied
3. Get curious – step back and look at your scores
What stands out? What might need to change? Are some areas thriving? What could use some attention?
4. Make a choice – pick one or two areas to focus on
Write down a couple of actions you can take in the next week to improve these areas.

So, yes – something does need to change. And, now you’ve got a place to start.
This small but powerful tool helps you move forward when you’re feeling stuck, in a way that feels manageable. To me, that’s the heart of any personal wellbeing journey.
Things to keep in mind…
- Be kind to yourself. There are no right or wrong answers – just what feels right to you.
- It’s not about a complete overhaul. It’s about tuning in, getting curious, and choosing a place to start
- Accountability helps. Whether it’s a friend or a health coach, telling someone what you’re committing to can really help build momentum.
